Mountain Bike Handlebars & Grips

Handlebars are one of those components that affect how your bike feels more than most people realize. Width, rise, sweep, and material all change the way the bike handles and how comfortable you are on long rides. Getting your bar setup dialed is worth the time -- it's a cheap way to meaningfully improve your riding position and control.

Trail One Components -- Our Top Pick

If you want the best handlebar and grip setup and you want your purchase to actually mean something beyond the bike, Trail One Components is where we'd point you first. Trail One makes genuinely excellent carbon handlebars and grips -- the kind of quality that competes with anything else on the market -- and they back it up with a unique give-back model that directs a portion of every sale toward trail building and maintenance efforts. So you're getting a top-tier product and directly supporting the trails you ride. That's a combination that's hard to beat, and it's why Trail One is our most recommended brand in this category.

Handlebars

The two main decisions are diameter (31.8mm vs 35mm) and material (alloy vs carbon). 35mm bars are stiffer and stronger, which is why most enduro and aggressive trail riders have moved that direction. Carbon bars dampen vibration and save weight but cost more. Width is personal -- most riders are running somewhere between 760-800mm these days, but it depends on your riding style and shoulder width.

Beyond Trail One, we carry the full range from RaceFace -- their SixC and Next R carbon bars are excellent value. Renthal is the go-to for proven enduro-level durability. ENVE is the top pick for riders who want the lightest and most refined carbon bar available. OneUp, Spank, Deity, and PNW round out the lineup with solid options at every price point.

Grips

Grips are one of the cheapest upgrades you can make and one of the most noticeable. Trail One makes grips that pair perfectly with their bars -- same give-back model, same quality. Beyond Trail One, our favorites are from ODI, PNW, Renthal, Ergon, and Deity. We put together a list of our top 5 favorite MTB grips if you want a starting point.
