Overview

I recently replaced the Maxxis Rekon 2.25x29 tires that came on my bike with Maxxis Minion DHF 2.30 x 29 EXO dual compound upfront and the matching Minion DHR 2 in the rear. The difference it made was more than I had expected.

I'm a 6'-1/2" tall, 250-pound rider. Having ridden the Rekons for a few months and washing out on fast corners as well as losing traction in mud and muck, the Minions changed everything for this Clydesdale. I even noticed a difference in rocky-rooted sections where the Maxxis DHF's grip like your girlfriend on a roller coaster ride. I recently took my bike to a ski/bike downhill park and they stuck like glue everywhere I went. I run my tires at around 22-24 psi and have yet to get a sidewall leak or burp.

Final Thoughts

There's a reason this tire is the "go-to tire" or the tire others are judged by- it simply performs. Mud, roots, loam, duff, hardpack, loose over hard, gravel, moondust; Minions eat it up. Stop reading and buy a pair.
