Wolf Tooth ReMote Pro - The New & Refined Dropper Remote

How Did Our Favorite Dropper Remote Get Even Better?

Over the years, lots of companies have come out with their own dropper remote, some better than others. But the one that has remained a shop favorite and also one of the best out there is the Wolf Tooth ReMote. With the exception of the light action version, the Wolf Tooth Remote hasn't changed for over 5 years, and it didn't really have to. With that said, Wolf Tooth isn't a brand that stays stagnant and now they have released a new version of their dropper remote, the Wolf Tooth ReMote Pro - a freshly updated remote that improves on feel, action, adjustability, and integration.

What's New?

Without saying everything is new, it kind of is. Overall, the same shape and design can look the same at first glance, but once you continue to examine it, you quickly realize it’s totally different. Let's start with the shape. The overall thumb paddle is a bit smaller, and as of right now, there is only one version, whereas the previous version has two models, normal and light action (Light action has a longer paddle). Next, how the paddle connects to the rest of the remote body is different as well. Previously, the lever body connected to the main body via a plastic breakaway part and used a long 3mm allen bolt to hold it to the rest of the body. Now, the new lever wraps around the remote body and features an adjustment of 48 degrees, which is very similar to how the mechanical SRAM XX1 & X01 shifters have been adjustable over the years. Personally, I really like this type of adjustment, as I like my dropper position a bit “under the bar” so I don't have to move my thumb much to hit the dropper. Especially on an XC ride, I hit that dropper more times than I can count.

The way the remote connects to brake clamps such as the SRAM MatchMaker system is also updated, now it takes on a bit more of a universal approach and can easily be swapped to other brake manufacturers with just the brake lever integration clamp. The last major update is how the cable is run across the remote, which is essentially over a pulley cam that is oval in shape, and also helps increase leverage to the lever. Wolf Tooth claims that this will not only work better with a wider range of dropper posts and how they are actuated, but also the new clamping style will no longer pinch the cable.

Setup & Feel:

When I first installed the new Wolf Tooth ReMote Pro, there is certainly a difference in the way the ReMote is positioned compared to the previous remote, plus the thumb paddle is a bit smaller. The new mourning system works well and paired up with my SRAM MMX clamp seamlessly. There’s also a bit of an oval slot to move the remote outwards or inwards a little bit for added adjustability. When running the cable, I made sure to double check a photo that Wolf Tooth sent as I was about to run the cable on the outside of the cable clamp bolt, when in the photo it is routed on the inside, so something to note when installing. Once on, the ReMote Pro feels great, and I have it paired to a Wolf Tooth Resolve post so I would expect this combo to be proven. The leverage is super smooth and the new thumb paddle feels great. I did end up moving the stock position of the thumb lever slightly, moving the thumb paddle a little further under the bar so it's closer to my natural thumb position while riding. Lastly, I also paired the ReMote Pro with my Fox Transfer SL post just to see how it felt with that setup. The Transfer SL is a spring assisted post and while it doesn’t require a lot of force to activate, it does have a different style of activation. Nonetheless, it works great with that post and actually the ReMote Pro feels better than the other remote I had paired to that dropper post.

What's Worldwide's Takeaway?

The new Wolf Tooth ReMote Pro is a great upgrade to arguably the best dropper remote on the market. Fully CNC’d plus features like smooth bearings, lots of brake adaptor mounts, adjustability in lever position, and an increased leverage ratio that helps smooth out the feel ever further makes this remote hard to beat. As the first version of the ReMote was a shop favorite, the new ReMote Pro will gladly take that spot and you will definitely find this on some new builds in the future.
