The contact points that keep a rider connected to the bike are very important for both feel and control. One of the big components for this is, of course, the handlebars. Our friend Christopher shares his experience with the RaceFace Next R 35 Carbon Riser Handlebar. Check it out!
I purchased the Raceface Next R carbon handlebar to replace the aluminum handlebar on my Nomad. I had never tried a carbon bar, but heard that they help dampen bar vibrations in the hands. I am no weight weenie, but the weight savings compared to aluminum was also attractive. I am a big fan of Raceface’s components, they typically provide excellent function with stylish looks, so I decided to try the Next R handlebars.
The Next R handlebar is very stylish, the shaping on it is spot on and the subtle branding looks badass – showcasing the RaceFace name without throwing it in your face. The bar mates perfectly to my Industry Nine stem held tightly and securely with no gap in the stem. I left the bars at their full width, I really enjoy the stability of the 800mm bar over my bike’s stock 780mm bar. The weight savings are noticeable and the vibration damping is excellent. Hand fatigue has not been totally eliminated, but I can definitely ride longer before it starts to kick in.
I ended up installing this handlebar on my girlfriend’s Strega and shaved it down to 770mm for her. She has also noticed improved vibration dampening over her stock aluminum bar. The only reason I replaced this handlebar was to try the Santa Cruz bar. I would highly recommend both bars, the Raceface is 10g lighter and would probably look better on non-Santa Cruz rigs.
I have only had this handlebar for about a month, so I can’t comment on its long term durability. It feels sound and solid; I have experienced a few minor crashes on it and no damage has occurred.
