Maxxis Dissector Tire [Rider Review]

Our "Rider Review" article series features the honest reviews from verified purchasers of Worldwide Cyclery. They contain the photos, thoughts, feedback & overall review you are looking for.

The Maxxis Dissector Tire came into the market shortly after the successful launch of the Assegai which has been titled the grippiest tire in the world. The Dissector holds the same core values in DH racing that helped the Assegai become such a popular tire, however, speed was the motivation behind the Dissector. With someone like Troy Brosnan behind the development of the tire, you would expect nothing less. Since the initial launch, the Dissector has found a home as one of our favorite tires, but primarily on trail bikes. Our buddy Patrick recently made the upgrade to the dissector. Let's see what he thought:

Patrick's Review:

As a new tire, I was both skeptical and excited to run this tire. I was looking for a tire that could do a full tour of duty on my Devinci Troy 29. I don't like jim jammin around with swapping tires but ride in many mixed conditions from absolute northwest slop and roots to duff drier than dead plant next to my desk, and occasionally taking a trip down the yellow brick road covered in fruity pebbles. This bike would be helping me summit the largest of peaks as well as holding a PBR in the water bottle holder while smashing laps at the Whistler bike park. For this to be possible I would need a tire that could hook up in the corners like a DHF, slow down like mud spike, but give me the low weight and rolling resistance of an Aggressor. An impossible feat you say? I think not... Meet the Maxxis Dissector.

Paired with the Assegai to create the holy Ass Dissector combo this tire truly can do it all. I can carry amazing speed but also have the confidence to send it into the rowdiest of steeps.

This tire has pretty much changed my life. I went from always making compromises to finding true happiness all the time. I never feel like I don't have the right tire. I just swing my leg over this steed and I'm off with a smile on my face every time, sending jumps, hanging it out on flat corners, and digging for bedrock in corners.

Maxxis Dissector Tire Review

Even though I'm on the beer and brews diet, paired with the COVID-19 workout regimen (aka very little), I have been effortlessly setting PRs and yelling at my friends for being slow, which I largely credit to the speed and traction of this tire. With that said, I could almost always have a "better" tire for this section of trail, this long flat, and that little chute over there. This tire rides the line between them all. For that, I would call this the ideal do it all tire, especially for bike park where you may be smashing steep rocks and roots on one run but the next riding A-Line without a chain. As for longevity, I cannot say for sure yet but it seems decent.

Conclusion:

"I have put 113 miles on the tire and it looks to be in very good condition except for some very slight tearing of some cornering knobs, but only on the side that I actually know how to turn. The midsection of the tread still looks perfect, shrugging off my abuse through my inability to modulate my brakes properly. I will be running this tire on more bikes in the future and am considering trying it on the front." - Patrick
