Riding with extra padding isn't always the most comfortable or cool looking. Fortunately, G-Form is here with their Elite Knee Pads which are designed to be both light and protective. In this review, our customer Adam compares his with the Fox Launch Pro. Check it out!
I put off wearing any kind of body armor - beyond helmet and gloves - mostly because I was concerned about it being uncomfortable and impeding freedom of movement and an enjoyable ride. What I can tell you is, since I've worn the G-Form Elite Knee Pads, I am enjoying my rides even more! It comes down to peace of mind - I get a great degree of (psychological) comfort when I'm wearing the pads - I feel less vulnerable and am less concerned about going down. This frees my mind to focus on the trail and my riding...also, inspires me to push my self.
Beyond the peace of mind aspect, these really are great pads for pedaling - I'm barely aware of them, these pads are only minimally noticeable while pedaling.
I also have the Fox Launch Pro - which I also like, but they are a bit bulkier than the G-Form and not as comfy when doing a lot of pedaling. On "bigger" days - riding more aggressively, I would go for the Fox. But for the typical day of trail riding - the G-Form is my "go to" knee pads.
As an "older" rider, I appreciate the importance of protection. I want to be able to ride hard and take calculated risks - and the armor provides assurance (and insurance!).
Worldwide Cyclery has done a great video comparing some top knee pads, which I'd encourage you to watch. In the video, Jeff does a really nice job comparing the pads. I think Jeff is spot-on with his views of the G-Form and of the Fox Launch. This video inspired me to get the G-Form Elite pads, and I am very happy I did.
