When looking for a durable dropper seat post, the FOX Transfer comes to mind here at the shop. The Transfer dropper post is arguably one of the most durable dropper posts in the game. Our friend, Lane has been running the dropper post. See what they think!

Overview

I recently purchased the new Fox Factory Transfer Performance Elite dropper with internal cable actuation. I coupled it with the new Wolf Tooth ReMote Light Action for SRAM Match Maker Dropper Lever. More on the latter in a moment, but I can say I am very happy paying a little bit more money for the Match Maker, as opposed to a generic clamp - which would work too - just not as clean.

Fox appears to have completely overhauled its reliable Transfer dropper post, reducing insertion the depth, total weight, adding a 200mm-travel option that will definitely please taller riders, and making the internals easier to service. Since I am 6'5" this immediately caught my eye and I am very pleased with the extra travel. It is very smooth on every trail I have been on since installing it less than 2 months ago. The Transfer works flawlessly so far and it is clear that Fox put a lot of thought into the redesign. The revamped upper and shorter stack means that many riders will be able to upsize and run a longer dropper post than they normally would.

It features a super-tough alloy construction, which makes it more than capable of handling all the abuse that is associated with serious trail, enduro, downhill, and cross country riding.

Fox Suspension has also equipped their Factory Series model with a sleek genuine Kashima coating, which (supposedly) offers exceptionally smooth performance and a stunning finish. Sure, it does look super cool but I did not see the need for the Kashima coating, since that is really an individual preference and frankly, cost savings that I have used on upgrading other parts on my ride. Also, since I do not have this coating on either of my shocks, it did not visually appeal to me. I was told it has Fox's patented saddle clamp design, which provides a secure hold and a reduced overall weight. However, I do not know enough about the saddle clamp design to comment one way or the other.

There’s no side-to-side movement at the head of the post and no springy free play when I pulled up on the saddle – and absolutely no sagging either. Thank goodness!! If you have ever owned a hydraulic actuation dropper post - that turned squishy on you - you know how frustrating the sag and additional movement can be. Once this happens the hydraulic models are nearly impossible to adjust even after bleeding it multiple times and burping the vent valve. You will not have that problem with this actuation since it is managed by a dependable cable. This alone is one of the primary reasons I selected this dropper post.

Final Thoughts

On steep technical terrain, I really appreciated the extra-low stack height which got the saddle right out of the way for maximum freedom of movement and also allowed me to achieve an optimum pedaling height. Fox has done a really nice job of improving some of the shortfalls of the old Transfer dropper post and maintained that all-important reliability as well. I highly recommend this dropper post to anyone looking for a dependable upgrade. If this is going to be your first dropper post - rest assured, it's not hype, it's a real difference-maker!!
Ride hard and smart....but above all else, ride often!!
