Like many things in life, it all comes down to personal preference. Picking the right saddle for you and your bike is the epitome of personal preference. We are all built differently so it makes sense that we all require different saddles. In this review, our customer Michelle picks up the Ergon SM Sport Gel Womens saddle. Check it out!
First off let me say this is a very well made, quality saddle. Everything about it shows the craftsmanship I would expect from this well known company. Each part of it is designed well.
Unfortunately I had to return it. It just didn’t give me the comfort I was looking for. The cut out portion that goes all the way through didn’t feel as supportive to me as a saddle with just the relief channel (I previously have used the WTB Volt and Koda as a comparison.) And the gel padding wasn’t as comfortable as I thought it would be. Perhaps I just needed a different style than the gel. One with standard padding.
You can see the area in the saddle that is cut out goes pretty far to each side. It seemed like I was just sitting on two rails. This was odd to me as I thought it would feel better given the design but it didn’t. I will say that the back of the saddle where my sit bones touched was pretty comfortable. It supported them with just the right amount of firmness.
To compare the WTB Volt and Koda to the Ergon Saddle you can see the relief channels I mentioned previously as opposed to the cut out. The Volt that came stock on my bike is longer and has a narrower relief channel than the Koda so it wasn’t comfortable to me either. The Koda is wider than the Volt so it fits my sit bones better. I also like the standard padding in it. Just my personal preference.
All this being said, I would recommend others try the Ergon SM Sport Gel Women’s Saddle and see if it works for them. Saddles are definitely personal preference and everyone has their preferred requirements from them.
