Jonel sent us this rad blog on the Surly OD Crank he recently put on his Lynskey. Let's check out his thoughts on the upgrade!
I bought a Lynskey Fatskey last December. The terrain I ride consists of either flat roads or steep climbs which is exactly why I've always wanted to run it with a 2x drivetrain. I did my research and found that the simplest and most practical way to achieve this was to buy the Surly OD crankset for Moonlander since it was designed for fatbikes with 197 mm rear hubs and already included a bottom bracket.
Finding the right crankset to fit my bike was no easy task. In fact, I even made the mistake of ordering a Pugsley crankset which did not work before I ordered this. I am happy with the promptness of delivery of Worldwide Cyclery and that my order arrived packed well as if it rode a magic carpet. Fortunately, with a lot of luck and a good bike mechanic, I was able run run the 2x drivetrain with 11 x 46 cassette smoothly ON ALL GEARS.
So far, I have used the bike for practice runs around the city on flat cement roads and find the bigger 36 tooth chainring to be adequate. For the weekend trails, the smaller 22 tooth chainring and the 11- 46 cassette provide more than enough range for those steep hard climbs. I could not be happier with the new set up.
