There's not much room for arguing whether or not having tools with you out on a ride is important. The only useful tool is one that you have out there with you during a long ride. In this review, our friend Dustin shares his thoughts on the Wolf Tooth Masterlink Combo Pack Pliers. Check it out!
Honestly, this review could be one word. AWESOME. I purchased these Wolf Tooth Masterlink Combo Pack Pliers to save space while riding. I ride with a hip pack and often find myself not being able to zip up the pack. There’s just too much stuff I want to have with me. These pliers, if you want to call them just pliers, really saved me a lot of space and weight if you are into that kind of thing. They are very well made and serve multiple purposes all in one. Having multiple tools in such a little package really made a difference in adding room to my pack. The quality is what you would expect from Wolf Tooth.
They are very well made and the ingenuity is fantastic. After using them around the garage replacing chains and changing tires, I can say they do exactly as advertised.
The Wolf Tooth pliers used to remove master links have plenty of leverage and I had no issues at all. I will note that you should be careful with the tire lever. If you are like me and have no regard for being gentle, there is a chance of scratching your rim. But as long as you take a little caution into consideration, you shouldn’t have any issues. Compared to other tire levers, they work just fine. The metal core with plastic-coated tire levers definitely are more forgiving and you don’t worry as much about scratching a rim. On the other hand, you don’t have to worry about the plastic tire levers that break or bend. It just comes down to personal preference at the end of the day. Being able to carry multiple master links is a plus.
One of my bikes has a 12 speed while the other is a 9 speed. Not having to remember to swap out chain links for every ride is just peace of mind. Plus, you don’t have to dig through your pack to find those dang things. The magnet used to hold the pliers in place works well. It’s not too strong to make it inconvenient, but not too week where the pliers will not lock in place. Overall, I would recommend this chain tool to anyone looking to save a little space or even a little weight. For the DIY bike mechanic, it is even a great tool to leave lying around the garage. Throw it in your workbench and it will take up no space at all. Just remember not to forget it’s there. I’m sure there are cheaper versions of this product available. But, for the quality you are getting from a reputable brand, you cannot go wrong.
Like I said earlier, they are just plain AWESOME. They also look pretty awesome as well. You will not be disappointed with the purchase. Just do it.
