The beautiful thing about riding mountain bikes in the modern era is there are little to no compromises when it comes to component selection. When SRAM first announced the Eagle drivetrain it was out of reach for a lot of riders, not anymore. Our friend Jose shares his experience with the SRAM NX Eagle Groupset. Check it out!
I can finally afford a SRAM Eagle 12 speed!!! From the get-go, I was super excited when I found out that SRAM Eagle came in an NX version. The SRAM Eagle GX groupset was always just a tiny little bit out of my budget. So, to finally be able to put a SRAM Eagle 12 speed drivetrain on my bike for almost half the price?!! I was super stoked!!
Right off the bat, the packaging was great! Who wouldn't love a big brown box with a bunch of red SRAM tape all over it? As soon as I cut that sucker open, my jaw dropped to the floor. When I locked eyes with the SRAM Eagle on that big silver box... It was love at first sight. I could not wait to see what was inside. Everything was so well packaged. All the components had their own individual compartment to ensure that it would not move around or get damaged. When I took the components out to inspect them, they felt so good in my hand. It was not heavy at all! The next step was to install my new SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain.
If you are coming from a 2x/3x system or just looking to upgrade your stock 1x drivetrain, this is the perfect product for you.
Installation was as easy as 1, 2, 3. Just take off your old components, make sure to remove any muck or grime that was on there from your last ride, and just throw your new SRAM NX Eagle drivetrain on! Granted that you might need some specialty tools and, of course, bike maintenance some know-how. Installation is a breeze. The only thing left to do was to take it out on the trail.
The first impression of my new SRAM NX Eagle was "Oh my goodness!!! Where have you been my whole life?!". As soon as I started pedaling, I noticed a huge difference! The pedal strokes were a lot smoother. Every shift was smooth, crisp, and precise. The changes in gears were subtle but shifted in such a way that every click just helped your cadence stay on point. I never lost any momentum. Climbs were a walk in the park and descents were fast and sturdy.
This is an amazing piece of kit! I would most definitely recommend it. Everything is on point with this groupset. The price point, the quality, and the performance. It is all there. Out of the whole thing, there was only one real downside with this groupset. I had to buy the SRAM DUB bottom bracket separately. It would have been nice if the bottom bracket was included with the package. But, in the grand scheme of things, that was not a deal-breaker at all. The bottom bracket was not expensive at all. And it was also a much-needed upgrade on my bike. This SRAM NX Eagle groupset is one of the best upgrades I have made to my bike. I would recommend it 100% to anyone looking to upgrade their bike on a budget.
