Arguably the dropper post is one of the greatest inventions since bread. So how can it get better? That's what RockShox did when coming out with the Reverb AXS, a wireless dropper post. Our customer has been trying it out, see what they think!
Many people believe the dropper seat post is the greatest improvement to mountain biking since the advent of full suspension, and the Reverb makes the greatest improvement even better. I purchased the RockShox Reverb AXS Dropper seat post in December of 2022 from Worldwide Cyclery and I would highly recommend it to anyone who cares about ergonomics, smooth operation, the ability to lower the seat post further out of the way, and clean and sleek look.
The $861 price tag means it’s an investment, but for me it was an investment worth making, so much so that I bought another one for my wife’s bike too. Due to the ease of installing and removing the controller and dropper it could be the only one needed if you had multiple bikes in the quiver.
I’m so impressed with the engineering of the wireless controller. The ergonomics and function were very well thought out. The mounting options for the controller really allow for significant customization of the location and angle of the controller. It is so easy to activate the controller, instead of pushing a lever, you click a button. The button is big and fits my thumb perfectly. I ride an E-Bike and I can easily slide my thumb between the power modes and the dropper post controller with ease. Prior to buying the RockShox Reverb, I used a Fox Transfer Factory 31.6mm, 150mm with Kashima coating. The lever required me change my grip depending on my riding posting, but with the Reverb I can engage the controller from any position, because of the simplicity of just clicking the button.
If you have ever installed a seat on a seat post, you may have experienced the difficulty in dialing it in or simple getting all the parts to play nicely. With the Reverb you loosen one screw to install the seat on the post, and then to adjust the tilt, simply turn another screw left or right, to tilt up or down. All dropper posts on the market really need to adopt the installation design of the Reverb.
Due to the wireless design of the Reverb the dropper post can be inserted deeper into the frame. This allowed me to go from a 150 mm to a 170 mm post length and moved my post 20 mm lower and out of the way in the down position. The operation of the Reverb is strong. With one click of the button on the controller the post goes from the low position to the high position with an engaging thud.
Finally, if you like a clean modern look with no clutter, the Reverb is a must have. The wireless Reverb eliminates one more cable in the cockpit. Since my bike uses electronic shifting the only two cables on my bike are the breaks. The clean, organized, and modern look of my handlebars gives really gives me the fizz.
I would highly recommend it to anyone who cares about ergonomics, smooth operation, and the ability to lower the seat post further out of the way. The one and only con I can find with the Reverb and the only thing I miss about my Fox Transfer is the Kashima Coating. The Reverb only comes in the color black, so my transfer post no longer matches my fork and shock.
