Riding mountain bikes in general isn't a poor man's sport or activity. There are many expensive things that can be upgraded or replaced. On the flip side there are a number of inexpensive components that can make a big difference on an average ride. Our friend Luke shares his thought son the RaceFace Turbine R Dropper Seatpost 1x Remote. Check it out!
To fully enjoy the benefits of a dropper seat post it is crucial to have a dropper remote that is comfortable and reliable on the trail. Not only will a better remote enhance the performance of your dropper, but you can add some cool style to your bike’s physical appearance with fun colors. For the longest time, I had been using the stock dropper remote that came with my KS dropper and would always be left frustrated and grumpy by its performance. It was a cheap plastic remote that made your thumb hurt after a few times pushing in the lever and never had a smooth range of motion. I figured it was time to upgrade and finally put this plastic remote in the past. There a few solid options that came to market recently for dropper remotes in the past year or so. All around the $70-80 mark you can get a high-quality machined aluminum dropper remote.
I had been looking at Wolftooth and PNW dropper remotes as well in the same price range as well but seemed to keep going back to the RaceFace Turbine R Dropper Seatpost 1x Remote. For starters I was attracted to the race face remote because I had seen some other rider use it and had said good things. Also, the blue color matched my bike so why would I not be attracted to it! It seemed simple to use, not super flashy, or over the top. It was just what I was looking for. I am definitely not a serious bike machine by any means however the install of this remote was extremely easy and could easily be done by any rider with little to no mechanical experience, The directions that were included would be helpful for those a little unclear of the overall process, but simply watching a quick video or two online would be just as beneficial. The remote also came with a new cable that was plenty long and had no trouble replacing my old one.
The performance of this RaceFace remote is fantastic! I have had it for about a month now and as been able to withstand some solid abuse already. The bearings are very smooth and it’s just the right weight to feel strong and secure to the bike. There are groves on the lever for grip for your thumb, however, I have found it to get slippery when my thumb gets wet (I have 2019 fox ranger gel gloves which have poor grips on the thumbs). Definitely not a turn-off, yet something to consider if you ride in wet conditions often. I couldn’t be happier about the performance of this product and am extremely happy I made the upgrade!
My thumb no longer hurts when I ride, and I can be confident that my remote will do its job and hold up when it takes some bumps and crashes. All in all, extremely solid product and would recommend it to anyone looking for a new dropper seat post remote.
