Hands down, the biggest and most popular mountain bike tire brand is Maxxis. They have a tire for every bike, terrain, and riding style. The DHRII in particular, is one of their most popular and famous tires. It can be seen on the front or back of many trail, enduro, and downhill bikes. Check out this customer review to learn more!
To preface this review my bike has been used for about 2 years before I got it and these tires are the first-ever tires I have ever had brand new. And let me tell you going from worn-out specialized butchers to these things was a shock of difference. I ride enduro mainly with a little trail thrown in there. switching to these was amazing, I felt as if I could get over anything.
Although these tires are mainly for downhill or park riding I still would highly recommend these for almost any type of riding. These tires are incredibly tough I have put them through a lot of tough trails including off-trail thorns and shrubs. I am running them tubeless at the moment and they are perfect at low pressure. If I could switch to new tires I would go with something a little lighter and just as grippy light as an assegai, however, these are just what I was looking for at the time. If you ride downhill, enduro, and have the strength to use these on trails the Maxxis DHRII is just what you are looking for if it is grip, speed, and durability. Having tires that were nearly at the end of their life I was slipping on almost all climbs, but now I am confident on any climb through slick roots and everything. As for speed, these tires made me feel more confident going down rough and rooty trails or rocky ones too.
Obviously, no upgrade will make you faster however these did make me and my brother whom I gave a pair to feel much more comfortable and in control, and capable.
With these tires, any rider would feel like they could go much faster and be in much more control while going down most trails.
I went down a trail that was much too steep for me and there was no grip as it was all roots without these tires I would not have been able to get as far down as I did, without crashing that is). I have had these tires front and rear for about a year now and so far even though thorns have been stuck into it and on many rocks, roots, and stumps I haven't even gotten as much as a flat tire from these.
Although they are a little pricey when it comes to tires they definitely make up for it in the long run. You get your money's worth with these tires, especially in longevity. If I had to rate these out of 10 I would rate them at about a 9 out of 10 the only reason they are not a ten is that I would rather a lighter tire. I would take all my advice with a grain of salt as these are the only tires I've had other than my used ones.
