I love this tire for the desert chunk. No matter what tires I try I always come back to the Maxxis DHF and DHR. I've been using 29 Plus size tires for the last 2 years or so and that means the Maxxis DHRII in the 29x3.0" size is my go-to tire...at least on my hardtail. Unfortunately, it is slightly too big for my full suspension bike (2019 Specialized SJ alloy). See pic.
I'm using this tire as a rear tire but have tried them upfront in the past. I mounted the tire on a WTB i35 ASYM rim with two wraps of stans tape. It was a little tough to get on the rim with the two wraps of tape but once on it inflated easily with a floor pump(I always try to inflate my tubeless tires with a floor pump before I reach for the compressor).
On the trail, the grip is amazing where other tires are searching for traction the DHRII just digs into the dirt/sand/gravel. What I like most is this tires ability to grip on rock. I've seen lots of comments online about how this tire is slow but that is not something I've really noticed (maybe because I'm not interested in starve time but rather focus on clearly technical climbs or riding chunk I have no business riding).
