In this review, one of our customers ends up winning a Trek Procaliber 9.8 SL from Dirt Rag's Bike Sweepstakes. How cool is that? To top it off, Todd had to get himself some new Maxxis rubber; a Maxxis Minion DHR II 29" x 2.3" out back and a Maxxis Minion DHF 29" x 2.3" up front. Read more on this killer combination.
My wife and I were completely psyched after learning that she had just won Dirt Rag Magazines, 2017 Bike Sweepstakes. We had never won anything before that moment, and to win a TREK Fuel was beyond wildest dreams. We ended up trading that bike in for a 2018 TREK Procaliber 9.8 SL, for me! I took my new bike to the desert to stretch her legs out, and I was completely limited by the “team issue” tires that it came with. I slid around just about every corner while I avoided numerous, near front-end washouts. I had enough on my third ride as I felt I was pushing the limits of the tires, and my luck!
I must have searched for my Maxxis DHR II and DHF tires for about an hour, becoming more and more frustrated at the “back ordered” status that was a constant. I didn’t want to wait-I’m a guy you know! So I finally found Worldwide Cyclery and I was super impressed! Not only did they have my rubber in-stock, but they also had them for a good price. I immediately ordered and received my new tires in only 2 days!
I had them mounted up, and was a little concerned about adding 1.54 lbs to my lightweight racer, but after my very first 35-mile loop, I smoked my previous time on the stock tires by an astonishing 1.89 mph average. More weight yet way faster, that isn’t usually the case, and you know exactly what I’m talking about.
I absolutely love my new Maxxis DHR II. The new tread pattern is aggressive and fast. The increased size of the side knobs makes light work of corners. What else can I add to the functionality, fun, and speed of my new Maxxis DHF. It is super stable in the sand, sand over hard packed, hard packed, as well as light to gnarly chunky love. These tires are simply amazing, and I couldn’t be any happier with my choice.
