The FOX Transfer dropper post is one of the industry's gold standard dropper posts due to the reliability and durability the Transfer is known for. Our customer has been running the Factory Transfer dropper post. See what they think!
I wanted to take the time to write a review on my 2022 Fox Transfer Factory Dropper post. I recently purchased the post for my 2023 Trek Fuel EX-e from Worldwide Cyclery. The customer support I received was top-notch as usual. The bike I recently purchased has a 34.9 seat tube diameter and Fox only makes the transfer in 30.9, and 31.6. They quickly helped me identify the correct length and seat tube diameter I needed for my frame. As well as the seat tube shim I would need to reduce the seat tube diameter.
I received my order within a few days of making the purchase to my surprise. To give some perspective on my opinion. I'd like to say that I've owned a few Fox dropper posts in the past both Factory and Performance series. To begin the post was easy to mount with minimal effort. Over the years, I have come accustomed to the reliability and performance that these dropper posts provide. Come to think of it I've probably tried all the manufacturers over the years. Even the Gucci Rockshox Reverb AXS dropper. But comparing apples to apples in cable-actuated dropper posts the Transfer is a top-tier choice.
Do you need the factory version with the Kashima coating? Fox states that the Kashima coating provides a smoother surface. This allows for a smoother return and overall performance. I haven't observed any performance benefits in comparing the standard versions during use to justify that. But let's be honest. That's not why people buy the Kashima version. It's the bling factor for most of us and it is undeniable. We as mountain bikers love our bling lol.
I have always found the actuation is buttery smooth and predictable with the transfer posts. In 2021 Fox redesigned the post and made some nice improvements in doing so. One of them is the removable collar design. The new design now enables you to where you can remove the collar so it can be cleaned and serviced underneath the collar while still on the bike. Which prevents premature wear/failure and shorter service intervals. In addition, the redesigned saddle clamp is a welcome addition as well. The new design allows for easier saddle installation/removal. Also provides a stronger saddle clamp without overtightening.
Fox was also able to reduce the overall insertion length. In the future, there is one feature that I would've really liked to have seen added. A design feature was incorporated in the new dropper which allowed for interval adjustments. This would've allowed for 5 or even 10mm reductions or an increase in travel similar to the Oneup or PNW designs respectively. Hopefully, that is something that they will consider adding in a future redesign.
Fox is known for their build quality and performance. Yes, it's a little pricey and there are cheaper options out there that will suit your needs. But as the saying goes you get what you pay for. Having a dropper fail during a ride can be the difference between having a good or bad ride experience. Currently, I have switched all my bikes to Fox Transfer posts. I'll take the proven performance of the Fox Transfer series dropper post over saving a few dollars any day.
