Cygolite Metro Pro 1100 Headlight: Rider Review (The Perfect Helmet Light)

When I was asked by Worldwide Cyclery to review the lights and mounts I had purchased for my new Fatbike I thought I would share my thoughts on how they perform.

Cygolite Metro Pro 1100 Headlight Review
I went with the Cygolite Metro Pro 1100 for a headlight to mount on my helmet and a Cygolite Hotshot Pro 150 Rechargeable Taillight for the back of the bike. I mostly ride single track and living in Michigan our days really don’t exist anymore! Hahaha. Winter is here and if you are going for a ride after work, it’s going to be dark and you need some good lights.

I already had a handlebar mounted light, but needed to upgrade and add a helmet light. I watched the light reviews from Worldwide Cyclery and others on YouTube and decided I’d give the Cygolite Metro Pro 1100 a try. It was on sale and that helped with the purchase. I’m very pleased with the light and it does pair great with my other handlebar light. The bright light on my helmet sure lights up the trail in front of me. The light doesn’t have a big hot spot either, so it is easy to see the trail around the light. Having 1100 lumens on High setting means this thing lights up the night! I usually ride on the second highest brightness and find that is usually adequate. I definitely have to remember not to look directly at my buddies when we stop or I blind them!

Cygolite Metro Pro 1100 Headlight Review
The Cygolite Metro Pro 1100 comes with a handlebar mount, but I opted to purchase the additional Cygolite Helmet Mount. From the Worldwide Cyclery comparison video, it was mentioned that the Metro Pro 1100 may be a little heavy to mount on a helmet, but I have not had it bother me. I do slightly tighten up my helmet and only feel it on really rough sections. The helmet mount easily straps to your helmet through the vent holes and holds the light pretty good. As I said, I can feel just slight movement on rough trails or going over fast rooted, downhill sections. The helmet mount has an angle adjustment as well so you can adjust the light up or down to your liking.

Cygolite Metro Pro 1100 Headlight Review

I was a little hesitant to purchase the Cygolite Hotshot Pro 150 Rechargeable Taillight because it was a little more than I initially wanted to spend on a taillight. I figured a cheaper one would be good enough. But after getting the Hotshot Pro 150, I have changed my mind. I cannot believe how bright this light is. The light can be blinding when you look at it, even from 10-15 feet away. There are many different settings and flashing speeds to play with and set to your liking. The mount to the seat post is secure. I was a little worried it felt a little cheap while installing, but it has held the light without slipping over crazy rough mountain bike trails!

So after this purchase, I am definitely ready to get my Fatbike out on the trails all winter long. I feel comfortable riding at a very fast pace with these lights. I have no shadows in front of me and the trail is lit up very well. Thanks for providing such great products WorldWide Cyclery!!
