Evil is one of those companies that many people are intrigued by. Tucked up in the Pacific Northwest, Evil has had a great year with the release of 29" Following and the brand new 27.5" Insurgent. So what is it that makes this frame so special? For starters, it features some insanely aggressive geometry - this bike was built to shred downhills without losing too much climbing ability. You can build this bike up however you want it - if you want to throw some bigger tires on there or a longer travel fork, the Evil Insurgent frame will graciously accept such modifications.
Evil worked very closely with suspension design guru Dave Weagle to come up with a brand new system for both of their bikes called the DELTA (Dave’s Extra Legitimate Travel Apparatus) System. Coming straight from Weagle himself, "The DELTA system was conceived to, among other things, achieve very complex leverage rate curves that can be used to tune for varying track conditions, spring, and damper parameters." What this boils down to is that the shock is very supple in the initial stages of travel while providing high traction through the middle and achieves a bottomless feel at the end of the travel. The DELTA System on The Insurgent also features different link kits which can be used to tune this system to your liking. Maybe you like your head angle a bit more slack or visa versa - this can all be accomplished via the reversible Flip-Chip. This system was design specifically for Evil bikes and you will not find anything like it on any other bike on the market.
When it comes to the drivetrain, Evil opted to go with the 1 x 11 setup which is the preferred set-up for many riders these days - it saves weight by eliminating unnecessary components. This frame also comes with a trick carbon upper chain guide that is removable. Even though BOOST is making its presence known on the scene, The Insurgent comes with the standard 142x12mm rear axle. The frame was manufactured by one of the top carbon bike factories in the world today that produces many other high quality carbon frames on the market today. As one of the few authorized Evil dealers, we fully honor their 3 year manufacturer warranty that they offer with all frames. Stay tuned for a further in depth rider review as we continue to put the Evil Insurgent through its paces.
