Carbon cranks are always a great way to upgrade your bike. They help save weight and can even stiffen up your bike if you ride more aggressive terrain. TruVativ is a close relative to SRAM but they focus more on the burly aspect of riding which is why most of their components can be seen on DH bikes from the weekend warrior to those World Cup Podiums. They also make really reliable Enduro styled-components such as these Descendant Cranks that Josh just threw on his bike. Let's see what his thoughts were:
I recently purchased TruVativ Descendant Carbon Eagle Boost Crankset - 175mm 32t and am very stoked with my purchase! I ride pretty rough enduro trails in Utah and never thought I would want carbon cranks on my enduro bike (mainly out of fear of them breaking) until I put them on my "down-country" bike and noticed a huge difference when pedaling up climbs. After that, I decided to upgrade my alloy cranks on my enduro bike.
After they arrived, the installation was simple and was a perfect fit for my SRAM 12x groupset. Worldwide Cyclery had them to my doorstep in no time, and they were very well packaged and protected. I took them out on a four day trip to Southern Utah. I decided to run 175mm length on my bike which I know it's uncommon, but it's what I prefer on my enduro bikes. After completing thousands of feet of elevation gain and multiple techy climbs I was amazed by how well they help up. Accompanied by crank-boots these things are extremely durable. I had plenty of pedal strikes and these things are as good as new. I smashed these cranks on plenty of red rocks and sandstone and they still look brand-new. I have already put over 100 miles on them in a few weeks and they are incredibly efficient and worth the upgrade. If you're looking to upgrade your NX/GX cranks these are definitely one of the best options out there. Plus they have a 2-year warranty, what's not to love about that?!
When I was descending on these cranks I was able to notice that there was zero flex when standing up and cranking into jumps or coming out berms. I took my bike to a local jump track and had an absolute blast putting the new cranks through the wringer. When standing on my pedals while descending there was a perfect amount of stiffness. If you're hitting chunky trails and hitting jumps on your bike, I would highly recommend running the Descendants rather than the X01 and XX1 cranksets. Mainly because of its durability. No one wants a broken crank mid-ride. Plus not to mention the price difference, save some coin and ride with a stronger carbon!
"The stiffness when pedaling and descending is a reason to upgrade alone. The new DUB tech is super responsive and the bearings feel like butter. The weight savings is a must as well if you're doing all-day adventures. And to top it all off, they look super cool as well :). They check all the boxes for everything I'd personally want in a carbon crank for my enduro bike. Stiff, durable, responsive, lightweight, and affordable! 5/5 stars." - Josh
