Hands down, one of the most personal preference components has to be grips. Either you like them soft or firm, thick or thin. ODI gives you a lot of options to choose from. Our friend, Thomas Just threw on some ODI Rogue grips. See what they think!
They’re on all of my bikes for three main reasons…
1. The metal outer end rings and plastic caps bounce off of trees, rocks, the ground… where grips with rubber ends rip and tear.
2. The two mounting rings – one on each end – make me feel that they mount more securely than single lock ring grips
3. They feel just a bit larger diameter than many other grips I’ve used, which I like.
The ‘give me more detail please’ version:
There’s a bunch of reasons the majority of my friends rock these grips… they feel great in the hands, soft enough to absorb some shock but tough to be long wearing, they look great, they mount easily (plastic sleeve inside the grip itself slides on easy) and securely (two lock rings, one on each end)… this is my first upgrade whenever I get a new bike. I’m going on my 4th season with one set, and they still look, perform, and feel great.
They also do colored lock rings on the ends… I personally go full black with mine, but that’s a great opportunity to do a pop of color if you’d like.
I’m currently riding a Pivot Firebird 29 that has the new padloc system with the diagonally cut bar ends… which would mean these grips wouldn’t work for me. I’m such a fan of them that I sourced some normal bar end adapters for my padloc bar specifically so I could use them on the new ride. Going through that level of hassle can probably give you a good idea of how much I dig em.
Can’t be understated how valuable having a plastic and metal end on these grips are for longevity.
All of us hit the occasional tree, rock, ground… whatever. If you’re riding hard enough, you’ll smash your grip into something you didn’t plan on. Rubber ended grips can tear when this happens. These don’t. My end caps have some scratches and dirt on them, but the grips are in great shape season after season.
My only complaint would be that while these feel slightly larger than the average grip in the hand, I’d like it if they made an oversized version also. I’ve got big mitts. Thanks for reading, hope this review helps you make your decision on what grips are right for you!
