Have you ever thought about buying a cleaning kit specifically for your mountain bike? A lot of avid riders think that it is definitely worth it. Our friend Thomas grabbed himself a Muc-Off Ultimate Bicycle Cleaning Kit and he is loving it so far. Check out what he has to say below!
What do you do when it is winter New Hampshire and you do not yet own a fat bike to ride in the snow? Watch a ton of videos on YouTube and start working on your bike in the basement to prepare for spring. This past summer I was able to finally get a full suspension bike and made the jump from 26inch to 29inch wheels. My plan for this winter was to convert those large wheels to tubeless. Since this would be my first time installing tubeless tires and having an affinity for not quite getting it right on the first try. I knew I would need some time because most likely I would need a second attempt to get it right. After finding Worldwide Cyclery YouTube channel and watching most of the videos I wanted to thank them for making all those great videos, and knowing that it takes a lot of time to make each video, the best way I could think of was to place an order.
On my first order, I snagged a set of Orange Seal Versa Valve Tubeless Valve Stem 32mm and the Muc-Off Ultimate Bicycle Cleaning Kit. Since this was my first time attempting going tubeless I choose the Orange Seal valves because they came with two different grommets so I knew they would fit in my rim well. They also came with extra valve cores so I could throw a spare right in my pack for on the trail maintenance. Orange seal includes a removable valve core tool. Having one from the start gave me the peace of mind that I could swap out the valve core if I messed it up somehow in the install process. Orange seal really thought of everything when they put the tubeless valve together. It includes everything you need to fit most rims, extra valve cores that you can use as a spare on the trails and tool to remove the valve core that you should immediately stash in your pack so you always have one on the trail. It feels like you are getting your money worth when purchasing it. They were easy to install and have been keeping the air in my tires as I wait for spring to come and ride.
The Muc-Off Ultimate Cleaning Kit’s large bristle cleaning brush was great for using the soap water technique for helping to seat the tire bead with just my old floor pump. Not having any of the supplies for washing my bike you cannot go wrong with the ultimate cleaning kit. You get everything you need to keep your bike clean, plus wet lube to lubricate your chain in the wet spring riding and a dedicated storage box to keep everything. With the four different brushes, it should be a breeze to keep the suspension linkage clean and creak free. I am excited to try out the bike spray to protect the frame and keep it shiny and looking like new. With this kit being an easy all in one, I can just grab it from its storage spot in the basement, wash my bike after each ride if it gets dirty, inspect the bike for potential problems and fix them before they turn into trail disasters. I think this kit will definitely help in building better bike caring habits so I can spend more time on the trails riding and less time with emergency repairs.
There was a second order placed after this one for the rest of the tubeless supplies. With a degree in how to install tubeless tires from the school of YouTube, I want to say thank you to everyone out there who made an instructional video. I think I watched all of them. The wheels are holding air great. It only took me two tries to get it right. I messed up taping the rims and needed to redo that part. I am just waiting for the snow to melt, and the trail to dry, so I can take my bike for a ride, get it dirty and then give it a good wash to really try out those cleaning supplies.
