Overview

The time I have had on the new tire set I got from WorldWide Cyclery has been nothing but incredible! I am riding a 2019 Specialized Stumpjumper EVO S3 and how I love that bike. From the first day, I got it, I was in mountain riding bliss. I was upgraded from a 2016 Specialized Camber, so bumped up my travel 30mm on both front and rear. Also, the geo was slackened out to a more downhill friendly angle. The EVO is a couple of inches longer making it more stable at higher speeds. This all and all made me a more confident rider and I was able to take on harder trails with more speed and knowing that I would be able to survive more technical descents. As I started to upgrade parts, pedals, stem, handlebar, the seat I became more and more obsessed with my bike, not only looks but in performance.

I live in Monument Valley Utah in the desert. Monument Valley is home to many movies in the Western genres, the late and great American movie actor John Wayne made a name for himself filming here in the 1930s as directed by John Ford. Many, many other movies and commercials have been filmed here, most recently and notably, "Transformers: Age of Extinction (2014) and "The Lone Ranger". Monument Valley lies a short two-hour drive south of Moab Utah recognized the world over for having some of the best slick rock trails in the U.S. With that being said, here in the "Valley" have a lot of slick rock and a ton of open dirt roads to ride. We also have an abundance of sand and vegetation that consist of cacti, tumbleweed, and bullheads that make it important to have a good supply of either inner tubes, patch kits, tubeless tire plugs, and/or good sealant. I carry all the listed on my person when venturing out in the desert. You can literally ride 50 miles from my house and not see a single person or vehicle during my ride which of course makes it very important to be prepared for flats or other emergencies.

On Trail Performance

The Stumpy EVO comes stock with Specialized brand Butchers 2.6. I was happy with the tire but so wanted to upgrade to something with more traction and more thorn resistance. Reading and watching several reviews I decided on the Maxxis Assegai Dual, EXO wide trail upfront, and the Maxxis Minion DHR II 3C Maxx Terra EXO+ out back and I am so excited to say that that combo has been nothing less than great for the trail conditions out there. With the butchers, I was having trouble trekking through deep sand and now with the Maxxis tires, the wandering and side-to-side traction loss has been eliminated making for a much better experience riding out here.

I believe this to be the single best upgrade on my bike thus far.

It has helped with my times also as they do roll faster than the butchers.

Final Thoughts

All in all, watching WWC youtube videos in making my decision down to the ordering process to customer service World Wide Cyclery has been #1 in my book. Any time I want an upgrade, they are the first ones I look to. If you need to advise on a certain bike part, look up one of their videos on YouTube. Not only informative but also entertaining!! LOL!! I have nothing but good things to say about WWC and they have my full recommendation for your mountain biking needs. Give them a try.
