Forestal Siryon

Overview

The Forestal Siryon, purchased from Worldwide Cyclery, is a force to be reckoned with on the trails in any conditions. With its cutting-edge technology, lightweight design, and remarkable performance, this bike has taken my recent off-road adventures to new heights. In this review, I will delve into the various features of the Siryon that make it a fun and formidable companion on the trails.

First, it's worth noting that Forestal is a high-end mountain bike brand, designed for serious MTB use, but not on a budget. It's made with a carbon fiber frame and high-end components, which can make it both lightweight and durable. My Siryon is the Neon build spec, which sits in the middle of their three package levels.

The first thing that struck me about the Siryon was its sleek and modern design. Forestal has clearly invested significant effort in creating an aesthetically pleasing frame that catches the eye. The bike is constructed using high-quality carbon fiber, which not only ensures exceptional strength but also helps reduce weight. The attention to detail is evident throughout the bike, from the smooth welds to the carefully integrated cable routing. My bike as currently set up weighs 40.8 lbs (18.5 Kg).

The Siryon truly shines when it comes to performance and handling. Mine is equipped with a Rock Shox suspension (Lyric Ultimate front fork, Super Deluxe Ultimate rear shock), including a Forestal Twin Levity linkage suspension system, this bike effortlessly glides over rough terrain, absorbing bumps and providing a comfortable ride. The front and rear suspension work in perfect harmony, offering excellent traction and control on steep descents and technical climbs.

Powered by their EonDrive motor producing 60Nm of torque and a surprisingly resilient 350-watt hour battery, the bike provides an impressive boost when needed. The assistance can be adjusted according to the rider's preference, whether they want a subtle nudge or a more substantial push by way of 4 power modes, the bike has more than enough juice to support any riding style on the climbs or over any challenging features. Additionally, the bike includes a walk mode/assist to help when hike-a-bike is the inevitable option.

The Siryon truly shines with it comes to performance and handling. This bike glides effortlessly over the rough desert terrain, absorbing rocks and providing a comfortable ride. The front and rear suspension work in perfect harmony, offering excellent traction and control on steep descents and technical climbs. The combination of lightweight construction and well-tuned geometry creates a bike that feels incredibly balanced and stable, even at high speeds. The bike's geometry is designed for stability and control on steep descents, and the suspension system can absorb big hits and drops. Additionally, the bike's powerful brakes give you the stopping power you need on fast descents or in technical sections.

Before I dive into performance, I did make a few upgrades upon receipt of the bike – I swapped the highly efficient Sram X01 Eagle drivetrain for the new Sram Eagle (AXS) Transmission – I love the wireless setup and may need to do a full separate review on the awesome performance of the Sram Eagle Transmission. Additionally, I swapped out the Crankbrothers Highline 7 dropper post for a Rock Shox Reverb AXS. Additionally, the Neon build spec also features Crankbrothers Synthese eCarbon 29” wheels and Magura MT7’s, addition to carbon crankarms, bars and more.

Coming from someone who has been riding primarily Ibis analog bikes over the past 7 years, I’ve grown quite accustomed to their ride style, performance on the trails and carbon frame durability. The Forestal has quickly earned my trust and feels like it will handle everything I can throw at it.

Two minor errors happened (during my initial ride and within the first 50 miles of rides on this bike)– the Smart Trigger came unplugged on the inside of the top tube. Fortunately, it was a quick fix and the folks at Forestal were super responsive on the matter. Additionally, I’ve run into an issue with the GPS not geolocating me, but that matter was also quickly addressed and resolved by the Forestal team. They have really been a reliable and prompt resource for all questions and issues as they come up.

Final Thoughts

In conclusion, the Forestal Siryon is a remarkable machine that lives up to its promises. Its sleek design, exceptional performance and impeccable handling have me excited for future rides and how far I can push this bike on the trails. It’s not a budget bike – but it is a great high-end boutique option if your budget permits.
