Deity Bladerunner Pedals Review

Deity's new complete product lineup has put them even more on the map with a full components spec of handlebars, stems, grips, saddles, seatposts, seatpost collars, and pedals. After unveiling an almost completely new product catalog for 2017, the Deity Bladerunner pedals are one of the few products that continued on. Here in this review, we are breaking down Deity's thinest platform pedal, the Bladerunner! 

Pedal Specifications

• Extruded and machined from Deity molds using 6061 T6 aluminum.

• 103mm x 100mm footprint.

• 10 traction pins per side. Extra pins included.

• Longer pins are used on the front and back edge of the pedal, compared to the pins in the center to create a concave feel between pedal and shoe.

• Deity's thinest pedal makes for a lightweight pedal and excellent ground clearance. 11mm thickness at the outside of the pedal.

• Fully serviceable DU bushings and bearings system.

• Heat treated Chromoly spindle that allows the pedals to be installed with either a standard 15mm pedal wrench or 8mm allen key.

• Available in 7 anodized colors: black, silver, orange, red, blue, green, and purple.

• Weight: 370 grams (pair).

Riding and Performance

The Bladerunner pedals feature a super thin 11mm tall and 103mm x 100mm platform and are a do it all flat pedal. For this review, I rode these Deity pedals on my downhill bike for some winter riding at Windrock Bike Park in Tennessee as well as at the local dirt jumps and dual slalom tracks. After taking the Bladerunner pedals out of the box, it didn't take long to realize these are a very high quality pedal, with no detail left behind.

Pros 

• The thin platform design gives you great ground clearance over rocks and roots on the trail. 
• High detailed machining and open design allows the Bladerunner pedal to shed mud very well. Keeping the pedals clear of mud gives you more traction even when the conditions are tough. 
• After a long term test riding the Bladerunner pedals, they are still spinning like new. Even with a few scrapes and scratches, these pedals are still spinning smooth and straight. 
• With plenty of color options, pick and choose what matches your style!
• I thought these pedals worked best for trail riding or at the dirt jumps and skatepark. 

Cons

• Because the Bladerunner pedals rely on longer pins to give you a concave shape, they don't provide as much grip compared to the Deity TMAC Signature pedals. That being said, it is much easier to readjust your feet on the fly. For those who like to be able to move your feet around with ease, these pedals work great.

• The longer pins are fairly aggressive and can do some damage to the bottom of your shoes depending on what they are paired with. 

What's The Bottom Line?

After riding the Bladerunner for a couple months, I became accustomed to my feet sliding around a little on the pedals. That being said, the Bladerunner pedals made it easy to ride foot out flat out with a loose riding style. I think some riders prefer different levels of grip from their flat pedals, and I fall on the side of maximum grip over anything. For me, I would prefer the Deity TMAC Signature pedals but at the same time, I know riders that prefer the way the Bladerunner pedals ride. Being able to drop your heals and take your feet on and off the pedals with ease in a reliable durable package is what the Deity Bladerunner pedals do best!
