Customer Review: Rockshox Super Deluxe Rear Shock

This review was written by William Potter who was looking to upgrade to a new rear shock for his 2017 Trek Remedy. He ended up choosing the recently released Rockshox Super Deluxe Rear Shock, let's take a look at what he had to say.

--

I purchased the new Rockshox Super Deluxe for my 2017 Trek Remedy. My new frame came with the Rockshox Deluxe that has Trek's "Reactive" valve dampening. I purchased this shock because, for me, the reactive dampening made my bike slightly unpredictable. The compression valve did open seamlessly but gave a false sense of platform. I also noticed that while trying to manual the bike, the shock/bike acted out of character. This was due to the Reactive valve. I can manual with the new shock... decently. Also, I want the larger oil volume so the bike performs the same at the bottom of the run as the top. I plan on racing Enduro on this bike, which means long downhill runs! So far, I can find no fault and only praise for my new shock.

My previous bike was a Slash with a Monarch Debonair Plus on it. I am used to an active shock on an active frame. The "Reactive" valving of the stock shock was simply not what I've come to love about Treks.

In the past before my 2015 Slash, I raced on Treks without the larger oil supply of the Super Deluxe's piggy back. There is a noticeable difference on long chunky runs. My previous Debonair was a big improvement. This new Super Deluxe Rear Shock is a big improvement over the Debonair! It has a plush consistent feel with a better ramp up and a better token system for air volume adjustment. The new shock is more supportive with less air pressure (than the Monarch Plus), this could also be due to the new metric sizing, essentially putting an overall larger shock in the Trek's frame.

Also, I geek out on the tech side of things so the bigger bushing overlap makes a lot of sense! The other friction reducing improvements you can really feel! It is extremely sensitive to bike and rider feedback but not at all "bouncy." just everything you want a shock to do. All the improvements come together for a smooth, supportive, "makes my bike track amazing", flawlessly performing, best rear shock I've ever ridden!
