Bluegrass Legit full face helmets were developed with racing and competition in mind. As some know, you see this helmet on some of the fastest racers in the world, and Bluegrass knows that full face helmets must exceed their needs. Our friend, Alex has been rocking the Legit helmet; see what they think!
I have ridden many different brands of helmets over the years and wanted to try something different. My first impression was that the build quality is very high, I love the matte finish and the carbon makes this helmet feel even lighter than I expected. I have ridden/raced the helmet a few times now and even although it claimed to have great ventilation, I was throughly surprised how cool it felt on a hot summer day at the bike park. Overall I highly recommend this helmet for any gravity riders that take head protection seriously.
Fit:
I wear a medium with all helmets and this helmet feels true to size. I like how snug it feels and I feel no space when I shake my head side to side. Due to the weight and fit, the helmet feels solid and confidence inspiring when attaching chunky terrain. Its also an incredibly comfortable helmet. It feels soft and snug and the lightweight nature really allows me to focus on my surroundings and riding without feeling weighted or obstructed in any fashion.
Feel:
I really like the quality finish on the helmet. I have purchased helmets from all of the major brands and it does not feel good to pull a helmet out of the box and be disappointed with the quality. I can see why many world cup teams run this same helmet. The helmet nicely fits the contours of my head and it feels snug, comforting and extremely protective. This is one of the most comfortable full face helmets I have ever worn. 10/10 for comfort and feel for me.
Ventilation:
Although this is a full DH helmet, it certainly feels cooler than the standard top tier full face helmets such as the Troy Lee D4. I think this is due to the fact that this helmet has the most vents I have seen on a full face helmet that is not branded for Enduro. I have climbed in it once and although its not quite as cool as a Troy Lee Stage, I did not feel like it was too burdensome to continue climbing with it on my head. Overall I feel like this helmet is as cool as any modern enduro helmet with a non-detachable chin. In fact, I do feel it is a bit cooler to wear then even the Leatt Gravity 4.0 helmet.
I really like the cool of this helmet, not too flashy, no obnoxious colors/themes and carbon is subtle. I like that this helmet looks very different to the other big brands on the market and the finish/build quality really comes through as a thorough race brand/helmet. I have sustained two minor wash outs since I have had this helmet, it did scratch a bit but given the type of crash I had, it was to be expected. The paint seems of high quality as well, I did not see any chips or major issues aside from some minor scratches on the clear coat it seems. Overall I give this helmet a 9/10.
