Experience flawless shifts under load and smoother trail rides with the SRAM GX T-Type Eagle Transmission—innovation that truly transforms your ride.

Overview

I live in Tehachapi, CA, a small town with big trails. Riding never gets boring; there are plenty of trails to choose from, and each day just changes things up with a few ups and downs—not "down" meaning upside down, haha.

One thing I always do is keep good maintenance of my bikes, and even more important than that is staying tuned to what's next with innovation. The SRAM GX T-Type Eagle Transmission was something I had desired for some time. I heard your fearless leader, Jeff, talk about the difference between "innovation" and "significant innovation." It was an interesting podcast and video segment where Jeff discussed the bike industry boom and bust. Jeff's statement about significant innovation really got me thinking.

I related this to how my new SRAM GX T-Type Eagle Transmission groupset impacted my ride and what level of innovation this represented for me. Note, I said for me. I consider this a significant innovation for my riding experience. Many Tehachapi trails have quick transitions from speed to technical climbing. Previously, a significant part of my ride involved thinking about what was around the corner and whether I needed to shift up or down to enter gnarly transitions.

With the SRAM GX transmission, I was able to focus more on my speed downhill and less on anticipating gear shifts, knowing I could shift quickly to maintain momentum for a technical climb. The flawless shifting under load provided what I call a significant change to my ride. Now, I'm able to handle terrain better and maintain momentum with less focus on shifting ahead of time. Even if you don’t know what's coming around the corner, you can shift under load, confidently hit transitions, and keep pounding the trail, smoothly conquering the ups and downs. I also noticed that the average speed of my rides increased due to this incredible shifting experience.

Another important aspect of the SRAM GX T-Type Eagle Transmission is the setup. At first, the steps seemed intimidating, and I wondered how everything would align. However, following the SRAM video made it straightforward. I did need to refer to the spacer chart to install the correct spacers for the widened crank spacing and pay attention to the chainstay length to achieve the correct settings for my bike.

After completing the installation, I tested the shifting, and amazingly, it shifted flawlessly. After a couple of rides, I noticed a slight noise between gears, which required a one-click micro-adjustment. The micro-adjust was simple and eliminated the slight slop when shifting down. Using the app, where I had previously registered my bike and new SRAM GX T-Type Eagle Transmission, was also very easy, thanks to SRAM’s clear video instructions. Within the app, I made a quick one-click micro-adjustment and observed the derailleur’s immediate response. Now it continues shifting perfectly without any noise.

Final Thoughts

Overall the SRAM Eagle GX transmission was easy to install and gave me a significant innovation to my rides. This is worth the investment upgrade to any bike.
