There are usually a few reasons someone wants to upgrade their rear shock. One of those reasons can be the simple fact that the original shock can't keep up with the abuse being dished out. In this blog, our friend Brian Wolter shares his view on his new Fox Shox Float X2 Kashima shock. Check it out!
With the recent purchase of a new YT Capra 29er, the Rockshox Deluxe it came with was definitely put through the wringer. Given my consistent rides are usually on Rocky downhill trails, flow, and my personal favorite rock gardens just minutes away from my house, I thought the current shock was great for large jobs but what’s lacking small bump compliance. The dilemma and largely researched choice of coil versus air spring let me to the Fox Float X2. Given the degree of adjustability as well as near coil-like, from what I’ve read, small bump compliance led me to purchase from Worldwide Cyclery.
Now I will admit I am a sucker for details, but following the simple instructions of initial air volume and proper compression to have equal negative pressure, as well as the ability for the Low and Hi-Speed Compression and Rebound, landed a new ride all together in the 160 rear travel. Now I am thinking of converting the front to a coil via Push industries, But given the new steel and control of the rear shock small bump compliance, I may hold off for a well due to the fact that I am able to run higher speeds, corner with much more grip, and traverse much more difficult features with the new Fox X2.
The pros would be damn near everything, including small bump compliance, the fast flip switch for climbing, amazing adjustability, great mid-stroke, and easy adjustability including easy adjustability for volume spacers. Combine with beautiful Kashima coating and good old Fox reliability, I plan on riding this shock on everything I can. I’ve ridden one coil mtb prior, and it was a Fox Van shock, this X2 feels ever so more buttery smooth! The kicker was Worldwide Cyclery purchase options with Affirm and the always amazing service. It was an offer I couldn’t refuse and don’t regret at all!
