Since the Evil Following has been released, it has hands down been one of the most popular bikes that we sell. The Evil Following w/X1 build kit is a great option and we have had plenty of seat time on this exact build. One of the things that we love about this bike is how fun and maneuverable it is! Unlike a lot of 29” bikes, you can throw this thing around with ease thanks to the shorter wheelbase and chainstays.
For the suspension, Evil chose to outfit the Following carbon frame with a RockShox Monarch RT3 rear shock and a 130mm RockShox Pike fork. This combination paired with the Dave Weagle designed DELTA suspension system give this bike a linear ride that handles great on the trail. The DELTA (Dave’s Extra Legitimate Travel Apparatus) was designed for Evil around the RockShox Monarch RT3 as it performed the best after rigorous amounts of testing. Riders will immediately notice the traction while climbing and the ability to absorb rough terrain with this suspension set up.
When you settle in to the cockpit you will notice an internally routed RockShox Reverb dropper seatpost and RaceFace Aeffect bars paired with a RaceFace Aeffect stem, along with SRAM Guide R brakes. The drivetrain is outfitted with RaceFace Aeffect cranks powering a 1 x 11 set up with SRAM X1 shifters and rear derailleur. There is the option to run a 2 x 11 set up on this bike but we prefer to stick with the 1 x 11 set up. The Easton Heist 30 29” wheels with WTB Vigilante tires will keep this bike planted and offer a great feel both climbing and descending.
Another great quality found on the Evil Following carbon frame is the adjustable geometry. You can do so by flipping a chip in the DELTA system to either the High or Low setting. The low setting will achieve a head angle of 66.8° and a BB height of 13” and chainstays at 17”. In the high setting, head able will be 67.4° with a 13” BB height and 16.9” chainstays.
So how does this bike ride? Simply put, it is one of the most fun, versatile, and playful bikes we have thrown a leg over. You can flick this thing anywhere you want and the bike just goes right where you put it. The Following sports 120mm of rear travel, but don’t be fooled by that – we have had a hard time bottoming out the DELTA suspension system. There is plenty of supple feel over the small bumps in the beginning of the stroke and it ramps up as you get near the end of the stroke for a truly linear feel. When descending, the Following feels super stable and controllable at high speeds. If you are looking to have fun on a bike unlike any other, then you will absolutely enjoy the Evil The Following.
