We don’t think a bike can make you ride better, they can certainly give you confidence to ride above your ability, but nothing makes you a better rider except for you. This bike, though, will make you ride like a criminal. It is like a little sports car with too much horsepower and track tires. You want to get on the gas and get sideways at any opportunity and cause trouble. You will find yourself unnecessarily slashing and rock flinging at every opportunity. Luckily for you we don’t have traffic violations on the trail, otherwise it would be a lengthy jail sentence, extensive public service and considerable rehabilitation to rejoin society.
Make no mistake, this thing is a trail bike at heart and can tackle any ride, short or long, mellow or technical, but its secretly a slopestyle bike in trail bike clothing. This bike gets seriously distracted and will steer you into every extra credit line. We aren't sure if it will go straight for more than 50 feet without losing focus in search of a gap or hip.
Onto the more tech stuff, as mentioned above there are gizmo’s and new stuff. The latest metric shock standard graces this bike with bearings in the upper trunnion mounts which replace the traditional shock bolt and eyelet configuration. No marketing bullshit here, this system initiates with less effort and is smoother through the travel, effortlessly managing low speed chatter. It also supports most shocks including coil options. We opted for the Super Deluxe since this bike has the tendency to steer towards eminent fun. As if this bike wasn’t already stiff enough, the addition of boost spacing made it an instrument of precision, not needed but certainly welcome. Structurally we reduced tube volumes and restyled the head tube area, molding in the internal routing for easier entry.
With 131mm of travel, the Calling has a similar feel to the Following. The Calling wakes up early in the stroke and can be pushed like a longer travel bike in the rough stuff. Geometry is long, low and slack but the 74.8° seat tube angle keeps climbing in check, while a 66.4° or 65.8° head angle makes descending a party.
Packing up for a road trip and want to be ready for the surprises that await? The Calling is ultimate road trip bike. Long adventure rides with extra credit, dirt jumps, bike parks, wheelie contests, and cutty slashing goodness will become your best friends! Push the button.
